The Greater LA Data Science Pathways aims to: (i) bring together partners at the high-school, 2-year and 4-year level with a common goal of creating flexible pathways (ii) develop a Network Improvement Community (NIC) among the partnering institutions to share best practices on curriculum development as well as strategies for student success, (ii) support transfer students through the creation of Bridge programs, (iv) develop an Undergraduate Learning Assistant (ULA) program, and (v) extend Data Science education through the development of interdisciplinary and general education courses. This partnership includes the University of California, Riverside (UCR), California State University, San Bernardino (CSUSB), California Polytechnic University, Pomona (Cal Poly), Caffey College, Pasadena City College and the three community colleges that are part of the Riverside Community College District (RCCD). Our project will create a pipeline that starts with course development and outreach opportunities at the high school level, continues with a 2-year Associate’s Degree followed by innovative bridge pathways to support the transition to Data Science majors/minors at 4-year institutions. Workshops will bring together partners to share DS pedagogy and inclusive teaching strategies. The pathways and the long-lasting relationships developed among partnering institutions will ensure lasting impact in Data Science education.
