Project PIPE-LINE (Programs for Institutional Pathway Engagement – acceLerating INfrastructure and Education), is a Pathways Development proposal in response to the California Learning Lab Grand Challenge: Building Critical Mass for Data Science Request for Proposals. It offers a collaborative and sustainable program for developing pathways and overcoming equity gaps in data science learning with California State University, Fullerton (CSUF) as the host organization and a diverse set of partnering organizations including: University of California, Irvine (UCI) and two California Community Colleges (CCCs) in Riverside County (Riverside City College – RCC) and Los Angeles County (Rio Hondo College – RHC), bringing together the three tiers of higher learning institutions in California. Project PIPE-LINE has three overarching goals: 1) create institutional pathways in data science between UCI, CSUF, and the participating CCCs; 2) build mechanisms for overcoming equity gaps in data science education; and 3) engender a sustainable data science repository of ideas and approaches for growth and outreach. Building on theory rooted in constructs associated with equity in teaching and learning, project PIPE-LINE offers fours avenues for addressing its goals: build new programs, revise curricular structures, promote equitable and participatory professional development, and form a community of data science learners and practitioners. |
